OZA was founded by A. Gordon Shaw, President. Gordon is a practicing natural scientist, member of the Society of Explosive Engineers and a multitude of other features comprise his CV. Under Gordon's direction, OZA has been a leader in environmental assessment in a variety of areas for over 30 years. OZA is a highly matrixed and diverse corporation with interests in several areas.

The Company

OZA Inspections Ltd. is an environmental loss control consulting company. The company was established in February, 1976 in Grimsby, Ontario and is a wholly owned Canadian company with a Canadian owned American subsidiary, OZA Inspections Inc., located in Niagara Falls, New York. OZA’s range of specializations includes, loss control, mining, software design, research and development, production, and environmental consulting. Its manufacturing division designs and produces seismographs and crack monitoring devices for a variety of engineering and construction uses.

The GPS-3™ and CVM-2™ Seismographs were specifically designed with loss control in mind. OZA’s seismographs are among the most advanced and simple to use on the market today. They have been designed to meet the stringent needs of our clients. The compact, easy-to-use design has proven to be highly effective and popular in North America and with other clients around the globe. These products are 100% Canadian produced.

The company has been a leader in seismograph technology in North America since its inception. Early designs effectively met the needs of customers but were large and cumbersome. Advancements in technology lead to overall size reductions in the units and greater acceptance of use among mining companies, construction companies, blasters and engineers.  Software developments greatly contributed to the acceptance as users can now more easily manage reports of previously recorded activities. The OZA Group takes great pride in its seismograph line.

OZA offers a myriad of services related to the environment with respect to loss control and consulting. OZA consults several construction companies, mining operations, blasters and members of the public on a regular basis. The company is deeply involved in loss control. Since 1976, OZA and its personnel have been carrying out pre / post condition surveys which include a detailed documentation of the interior and exterior conditions of man-made structures in proximity to construction and mining activities.  OZA inspects thousands of surface and subsurface structures annually.  Some of the personnel have experience dating back to the late 1950's. OZA also performs monitoring for these structures

OZA continues to perform vibration monitoring throughout North America and has been doing so since 1976.  These services include: research studies, investigations, and instrument design, and development. A firm principal is the chairman of the International Society of Explosives Engineers Committee, setting standards for noise and vibration specifications and quality assurance.  

Personnel perform daily monitoring services.  These services include but are not limited to the following activities:  blasting, boring, drilling, bridges, building construction, demolition, dewatering, drop forging, gas stimulations, highways, pile driving, power plants, quarrying, research, seismic exploration, sewer, watermains, slag breaking, subway, strip mining, tunneling, and utility installation.

OZA has improved public relations via communicating with property owners to reduce common fears and misconceptions associated with construction and mining.
